Day 7 of 40 Day Shoot for United States of Autism Movie

By June 28, 2010 One Comment

Wow, what a day for the crew of the United States of Autism movie! Our stop today was in Catlin, Illinois with the Welsh family, Tim, Cheri, and Tanner. From the moment the crew arrived until our departure at the end of a 12 hour day, we were touched by the small town feel and family of that little place in the country.

The interview with Tim and Cheri is what you would expect from the most influential autism Twitter advocate and someone with years of experience in broadcasting. Tanner came home from his school session in a great mood, which set the mood for the rest of the day. Crew A with Tim and Tanner were able to get a ton of great footage at his therapy session later in the day which Tanner rocked, and our Crew B spent time with Cheri in Catlin where they opened a one of a kind antique museum just for our crew. It was an amazing experience to see some of the first pictures taken in the nation, plus authentic civil war relics, city records, and the richness of a small town in America.

By the end of the day, we were able to meet Larry and Jean, Tanner’s grandparents, on their 45 acre farm in the Illinois country. They had a touching and heartfelt interview with beautiful open fields behind them while we sipped on tea and lemonade. Next, we left for Tanner’s last therapy sessions of the day at the local church. There, we got some amazing footage, including a music therapy session at the sanctuary altar of the Church and Tanner outside riding his Tryke. The church was a special place for sure.

We were sad to say goodbye to the Welsh family, but we know that we’ll see them again soon for the movie release, especially since it seems we are a good luck charm for the family with TIm’s new job offer he received in the middle of our interview! Woo-hoo!. We love you Tim, Cheri, Tanner, Larry, Jean and Kurt!

Tomorrow, we meet up with Lorette Brewster and her family in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Check back tomorrow, and be sure to check out some of our sunset shots from today over the countryside of Illinois.
